06 June 2018

The Seafarers Act and the Civil Code Book 7, title 10, have been supplemented by an arrangement whereby the ship's manager will ensure the repatriation of the seafarer if the employer has left the seafarer behind. This supplement is regulated by the Act of 20 December 2017 implementing the amendments to the Code and Appendices to the Maritime Labour Convention 2006, which were approved by the International Labour Conference on 11 June 2014 (Bulletin of Acts and Decrees 2016, 85).

The Act comes into force on 1 February 2018.

In addition, the “Verzamelwet (Collective Act) IenM 2018” has extended the Seafarers Act to include Article 79 in which the sanctions policy for violations of the STCW Convention, the SOLAS Convention or the Maritime Labour Convention is tightened up. This law comes into force on 17 February 2018.
