Prevention of Pollution from Ships Decree

The Prevention of Pollution from Ships Decree has been extended to implement three resolutions of the IMO Marine Environment Committee (MEPC) of 15 July 2011. These are MEPC Resolutions. 200(62), MEPC.201(62) and MEPC. 203(62). Resolutions MEPC.200(62) and MEPC.203(62) amended Annex IV to the MARPOL Convention (on the prevention of pollution by sewage from ships) and Annex VI to the MARPOL Convention (on the prevention of air pollution from ships) respectively. Resolution MEPC.201(62) established a revised text of Annex V to the MARPOL Convention (on the prevention of pollution by garbage from ships). Furthermore, this Decree implements certain provisions of the Ballast Water Convention. The amendments will enter into force on 1 January 2018.

Prevention of Pollution from Ships Regulation

The Prevention of Pollution from Ships Regulation implements Regulation (EU) 2015/757 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2015 on the monitoring, reporting and verification of carbon dioxide emissions from maritime transport implemented in the Regulation. The Regulation also implements Regulation (EU) No. 1257/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 November 2013 on ship recycling. The entry into force will take effect on 29 September 2017, with the exception of Regulation 1257/2013. It shall enter into force either by way of Regulation, otherwise on 31 December 2018.
