news Seafarers Regulation

16 April 2018

The Seafarers Regulation has been amended in five respects. Firstly, it provides for the possibility of avoiding the presence of night accommodation on vessels used exclusively for so-called non-continuous navigation, in particular for vessels intended for the maintenance of wind farms in the North Sea. Secondly, ships of less than 12 metres in length operated by the National Police are largely excluded from the scope of the Seafarers Act. Thirdly, a correction has been included concerning the availability to the crew of the current inspection report on compliance with the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006. Fourthly, the Articles on the initial issue and renewal of certificates of competence have been amended to make them generic. Fifthly, changes have been made to the model for the Maritime Labour Compliance Declaration Part I and Part II (Appendices D and E, included separately on this site under the Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance (DMLC), see below). The amended scheme will enter into force on 1 February 2018.
